Where are all the writers? Since living in the age of Tiktok, the production for digital content and videos has skyrocketed. Finally it’s being recognized that artsy fartsy people make the world go around. There is a natural craving for authenticity in the entertainment industry and because of that we’ve seen a rise in vloggers and more people showing the realities of life. As wonderful and predictable as that is, I’ve noticed a decrease in well constructed written work. With Netflix being the #1 movie streaming platform (don’t quote me), a lot of the time we are given slapped together projects that are critically acclaimed. The series ‘Squid Game’ is a perfect example of the need for creative writers. I loved how intentional every scene in that show was. Often when I’m watching things I'll think of the director and everyone behind the scenes. It interests me on how a body of work is brought to life. As astonishing as it is, it's upsetting to see now that we’ve entered a period where every aspect of life is rushed or made to be fast and convenient.

That’s part of why I created this blog. I wanted to create a space where I could articulate my thoughts with written words. If you know me, you’ll observe that I am a pretty quiet person. A lot of my observations are noted mentally. I’m constantly having a conversation with myself. I’m trying to get better at that considering I have YouTube now and I need to be able to express myself verbally. I so badly wish to collaborate with a writer, I’d love to be able to be the visual creator in that dynamic. I also think writing a children's book would be pretty cool and it is definitely on my list of things I hope to accomplish.
I’m not on Tiktok but I am gonna point out the come up of the people on the app. If you ask me, they truly earned their fame. They were not self proclaimed. It was of common likeability (or dislike) why some of these people have a job today and a lot of them didn’t know the world they were entering. I am interested to see the pursuits of these young new entertainment personalities. Do I think these people are celebrities, no. I think there is a slight difference between celebs and influencers but it’s become a gray area.
As sexy as reading is nowadays, I think it’s something a lot of us don’t practice enough. I think that often fattening the eye with imagery is way easier. Maybe reading just isn’t your thing. Which makes total sense. I just think especially over the past 3 years we’ve been marketed to binge everything. My favourite show is Bob’s Burgers and since it airs on FOX weekly, I love that I have something to be excited about on Sunday. Other shows I’ve watched recently that were also released weekly are ‘Pam and Tommy’ and ‘Euphoria’.
Still, I fear we don’t have any up and coming Seth Rogan and Evan Goldbergs. Who will tell dramatic fictional tales of black people after Tyler Perry? This is a question I do not have the answer to.
I’m interested to know if anyone else has noticed that true talent is dying. Please DM me and share your thoughts.
