My body, anatomy and my overall health whether it’s physically or mentally is incredibly important to me. We have one body and I want to treat it with respect and be attentive with how I go about utilizing it in the world. I want to perform at my best and feel my best. I think humans are so lucky as a species. We communicate verbally and because of that we share emotions on a deeper level than other species. Even our physique has evolutionize over the billions of decades we’ve been here. We are so blessed to be living in a time where technology is at its peak and we have convenient access to information globally. It’s because of this why I look at myself and think “I want to be the best I can be with the resources I have”.
I understand that I will never be put in a scenario where I have to be physically equipped to complete an Indiana Jones adventure and I’ll never be a competitor on “Wiped Out”. However, I think as a human, there is something rewarding about using your body and building enough strength to toss some weights around or even just being able to withstand your own weight. I find it easier to train myself to push 200 lbs rather than performing calisthenics workouts. Which is something I want to change because being able to carry your own weight is an accomplishment in itself.
The gym is my play time. I go there because it’s how I like to start my day and it’s what gets me out of bed and on a productive path. I started going to the gym in April 2022 with the intention of becoming strong. I am already skinny and I don’t like to put pressure on myself to “be” a certain weight because gaining weight can be difficult so as long as I am feeling results and getting stronger I’m happy. However, it’s Winter now which means it is time to bulk up because the days are shorter and I am gonna need more energy.
Working out plays a huge role in my mental health. I didn’t realize when I first started going to the gym how much it was doing for my brain. I just knew it felt good and then when I’d have off days I’d crave the adrenaline and the pump working out gives you. Since I workout, what I eat is extremely important to me. Obviously, we all have off days. But I try to be mindful of the food I consume. I eat clean and I would consider myself a mutation of a “granola girl”. I try to keep my body as happy as possible by eating well, working out and sleeping 7 hours. As a woman who has a menstrual cycle, all of these things are adjusted to the phase I am in. I find that around my period, I really benefit from just showing up to the gym and eating like a rabbit to reduce inflammation. Towards the end of my period cycle, I go hard and I start incorporating more carbs into my diet and lift normally.
I want to get on camera and articulate more in depth what I do, why I do it and tips for anyone who is willing to listen because I'm so passionate about fitness and it's correlation to your mental and physical being. That will be out next week on Youtube - I will link once it’s out.
